Et Si... on plantait des arbres... à fondue

The association "Et Si Vevey" organizes events in the Vevey region. The idea is to take over emblematic places, such as a park, the quays or a bar. Whether they are sporting, social or cultural, these events are based on three axes: reinforcing intergenerational links, promoting the region and local actors, and respecting an ecologically responsible line.

The event "et si... on plantait des arbres... à fondue" was organized at the Grenette in Vevey by the association. For each fondue sold, a tree was planted. During this event the participants were made aware of climate change, while enjoying a fondue and participated in the creation of the forests of the future.

tree planting project

This project is located in Froideville in the canton of Vaud.

This magnificent forest of Froideville is a source of delight for the inhabitants of the surrounding area. This forest is exposed to bark beetle and drought and needs support for the rejuvenation of the species. The association "Et Si Vevey" has participated in the creation of this forest of the future by planting Douglas and oak trees which will bring a beautiful biodiversity.

The Douglas is a species of conifer of the Pinaceae family that grows rapidly and can reach very large dimensions, and its wood has very good technical qualities.

The tree has a conical shape and a straight trunk. Its bark is grey-green, smooth, covered with resin pustules in young trees, and becomes brown-orange, corky and cracked along its length at maturity.

Its soft, supple needles are a beautiful blue-green and give off a lemony scent when rubbed.

The Douglas fir symbolizes strength and durability.

The oak is a large tree from the temperate northern hemisphere with hollow bark, gnarled branches, lobed leaves and fruit (acorns) housed in a cup.

The roots of the oak are deep and taproot.

It provides a habitat or food source for many species, from fungi to birds to insects. People value its wood for its aesthetic qualities and durability.

Inexhaustible source of strength and generosity. Symbol of majesty and magnet of lightning, it is the sacred tree of most traditions.
