tree planting projects

The Pictet Group has been involved in the planting of trees in forests on several projects in the canton of Vaud since 2021.

St-Cergue - Trélex, Vaud

This project is located between St-Cergue and Trélex in the canton of Vaud. This beautiful forest, which is popular with walkers, contains numerous habitats for fauna and flora. Trees weakened by drought and affected by the bark beetle had to be felled. In order to diversify the forest, chestnut, oak and walnut trees took root in autumn 2021.

Trélex, Vaud

This is located in Trélex in the canton of Vaud. Aging trees were affected by bark beetle and wind. Douglas fir and maple were planted in spring 2022, these resistant and interesting species will enrich this forest and bring a nice biodiversity.

Meyrin, Geneva

This project is located in Meyrin in the canton of Geneva. Oaks have been planted in this forest, a resistant species adapted to climate change. This area was affected by bark beetle and the weakened spruce trees had to be cut down.

Crans-près-Céligny, Vaud

This beautiful project is located in Crans-près-Céligny in the canton of Vaud. Walnut, linden and cherry trees were planted to enrich the forest. These species will bring diversity and be beneficial for biodiversity.

Tree species

The oak is a large tree from the temperate northern hemisphere with hollow bark, gnarled branches, lobed leaves and fruit (acorns) housed in a cup.

The roots of the oak are deep and taproot.

It provides a habitat or food source for many species, from fungi to birds to insects. People value its wood for its aesthetic qualities and durability.

Inexhaustible source of strength and generosity. Symbol of majesty and magnet of lightning, it is the sacred tree of most traditions.

The walnut tree is a majestic tree, becoming centenarian and interesting both for its fruiting, nuts, and the quality of its wood.

The tree prefers deep, rich, well-drained soil for cultivation.

The fruit consists of a fleshy shell, the husk, in which the nut is found as it is harvested or bought, with its shell broken and its seed eaten.

The walnut tree is both a beautiful and well-balanced tree, and its blossoming colours the gardens and forests in early spring.

The walnut tree symbolises intelligence thanks to the shape of its kernels which resemble a human brain. It is also a symbol of abundance.

The chestnut tree is a member of the large Fagaceae family. This majestic, powerful and large tree is both a forest tree and a fruit tree.

The trunk of the chestnut has a dark brown, longitudinally fissured bark. In autumn, its foliage turns an attractive yellow, which quickly turns brown.

The chestnut's shiny, toothed foliage hides edible fruit, which fall to the ground in autumn.

This tree appreciates a location in mid-shade or sun in deep, well-drained, slightly acidic soil.

The chestnut tree symbolises truth, rigour, generosity and justice.

The Douglas is a species of conifer of the Pinaceae family that grows rapidly and can reach very large dimensions, and its wood has very good technical qualities.

The tree has a conical shape and a straight trunk. Its bark is grey-green, smooth, covered with resin pustules in young tree, and becomes brown-orange, corky and cracked along its length at maturity. Its soft, supple needles are a beautiful blue-green and give off a lemony scent when rubbed.

The Douglas fir symbolizes strength and durability.

A majestic tree, the maple belongs to the Sapindaceae family. Its bark is first yellowish-grey, then reddish-grey and peels off in large patches. Its leaves are opposite, deciduous, palmate with 5 pointed lobes, with obtuse teeth, separated by acute sinuses.

It is a tree that tolerates low temperatures and atmospheric pollution well. It adapts easily to different ecosystems but naturally seeks rich, moist soil.

The maple is generous in its fruit and as such symbolises fertility, independence and transformation.

The Linden is a tree of temperate Europe, it is often planted in parks and avenues, its fragrant flowers give a sweaty and soothing infusion. This tree provides white wood, easy to work.

Protective tree, symbol of friendship, loyalty and love with its subtly scented flowers and soothing properties.

Celtic astrology sees the linden tree as the emblem of softness and flexibility.

The cherry tree belongs to the Rosaceae family and is native to Europe, North Africa and Western Asia. The cherry is a tree with an elegant silhouette and a charming spring bloom.
The white flowers with fine, delicate petals are grouped in lateral clusters. The fruits, called merises, are edible and are used to make kirsch.
The cherry tree prefers deep soil rich in organic matter, cool, neutral or slightly acidic. The soil must be well drained, as it fears stagnant humidity.
The cherry tree symbolises abundance, fertility and birth. It is also often associated with happiness, beauty and purity.
